Summer Stickers

Summer can be a really difficult time for teachers, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some options that actually work:

  1. Design a summer schedule that’s flexible enough to work for you and your studio families.
  2. Start a different venture during the summer, like running music camps and attracting students from other studios as well as your own.
  3. Take the summer off and you set aside money during the rest of the year so that you make the same amount during the summer.

All three of these can work, but number 2 is definitely extra work and may take a few years to get off the ground so you’ll need to give yourself a cushion.

Option 1 varies depending on your local community and whether most people travel and for how long. It has to be a system that works for you and the families, otherwise you’ll just be banging your head against a wall trying to get them to comply.

Option 3 (taking the summer off) is my favourite and if it’s what you really want to do, too, you can make it happen. You just need to set up a separate bank account for your business and pay yourself the correct salary each month. We all expand our needs and wants to the bank balance we have available, but if it’s not there, we can’t do that.
